Voters approved the construction of the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center more than a decade ago, and now it’s ready for guests to experience a slew of local and touring acts.
The 1,143-seat theater will hold more shows than average throughout the spring as an extension of January’s grand opening. Acts such as Bob Saget, Boyz II Men with En Vogue and Acrobats of Cirque-tacular are among the talent coming to town as part of the extended kickoff. The venue expects to host many kinds of events, such as weddings and birthday parties, not just touring performances. The center also plans to host progressive art events for disadvantaged kids, creating an encouraging environment for those previously unable to access the arts and related cultural influences. The center offers a little bit of everything for the surrounding communities, creating opportunities for those who are not regularly exposed to the arts.

As Kristine Davis and Melissa Nichols pondered what to do with their love for all things girl, a salon and boutique combo seemed the way to go. Thus was born Air954 Blow Dry and Boutique, a luxury space for girls by girls. It’s not a place with a pre-packaged feel – the duo wanted to put their moods and tastes into the space. The blowout boutique combo offers blowouts ranging from $25 to $45 and great deals on blowout packages (with no expiration!). Not only will they blow you out but they also offer trendy hair styles with awesome names such as the Fort Lauderdale, LA Glam and the London. The boutique also offers goods like candles, soaps, handbags, shoes and clothes.
Into the Wild Blue

If you are – or want to be – among the ocean’s fearless adventurers, this is your chance to shop, learn and have fun. This year’s Blue Wild Ocean Adventure and Marine Expo, which runs April 23 and 24 at the Broward County Convention Center, features an indoor pool where folks can learn kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and other aquatic skills. A kids’ corner will feature fun events including marine-themed face painting and art classes. Speakers will cover topics such as spearfishing, surfing and underwater photography. There will be marine art and photo exhibits by artists including Carey Chen, Pascal Lecocq, Randall Scott, Steve Ozment, Craig Dietrich, Don Ray, K.C. Scott and Manny Puig. And of course, there will be vendors representing every part of the marine industry. “We strive to offer an exciting atmosphere where ocean lovers can see the latest products, get great deals, listen to the best speakers, and meet other watersport enthusiasts,” event producer Sheri Daye says. “We’re entering our ninth year and this is our biggest and most exciting show yet.”
