Okay, sure. Cinco de Mayo falling on a Taco Tuesday could have been filled with bar hopping, dinner reservations, street festivals – all that non-socially distant stuff. But we think the real Cinco de Mayo party happens at home. So here’s our “Quarantine Guide” with cinco ways to help make the most out of everyone’s favorite margarita-drinking, taco-eating, “no, I don’t care that guacamole is extra” holiday…from home.

Because what’s better than supporting a local business by stuffing your face with tacos and street corn?
Here are some local spots that are offering take-out and delivery of your favorite Mexican dishes:
Shooters Waterfront
While we may not be able to indulge in the views of the Intracoastal at our favorite Lauderdale Classic, these Flash-Fried Mahi Fish Tacos (covered in tangy slaw, pickled radish, lime cream and elotes) are sure to please your quarantine appetite.
Place your order online then head over and enjoy a margarita dock-side while you wait!

2. Take it Virtual
All this quarantining certainly has us missing the days we were able to travel. Luckily, we have technology to act as a filler for the time being. This Cinco de Mayo, use the world-wide-web to explore our Southern neighbor.
Location: W Hotel Punta de Mita
Take your fiesta virtual and head to W Hotel Punta de Mita, without leaving your couch.
Grab that margarita and your computer and submerge yourself in the breathtaking photos of W Hotel’s Punta de Mita location.
3. Get cookin’
For the nights we don’t go for the take-out and delivery option – anyone else starting to feel like a master chef with all this at-home cooking?
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by cookin’ up some of these mouth-watering recipes at home!
Got your own favorite Mexican dish? Send it over to eat@flmag.com or post it on social media using #FLMagAtHome and #FLMagEats to enter it in our recipe contest. You could be featured in our magazine!
Let’s start with the basics…
I mean, you gotta start somewhere, right? Skip the bread isle and make your own Cinco de Mayo staple – the tortilla! Try this Authentic Mexican Tortilla 30-minute recipe by Just A Taste.
The hybrid we need right now…
Tacros aka Croissant Tacos
Yup. We said it. Some may even say this is the “best mashup ever.” Turkey Taco Croissant Cups by Drizzle Me Skinny.
Okay, now the important stuff…
The kitchen isn’t just for cooking up delectable dishes. It’s also for stirring up tasty cocktails!
With limited access to the super market these days, we may not all have margarita mix laying around the house. Check out this margarita recipe by Julie Blanner, where you don’t need margarita mix to get this happy hour started!
Last but certainly not least…
Just because you finished the entire pitcher, doesn’t mean the margaritas have to stop flowing! Take Cinco de Mayo into the 6th with this overnight Frozen Margarita Pie.
4. Involve the kiddos.
Family Movie Night!
It’s safe to say that the TV has been most of our saving grace the past two months. With platforms like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon we could binge-watch forever. One of our favorites here at the magazine is Disney+ (and that doesn’t just go for those of us who have kids!).
Grab the popcorn (or Mexican street corn) and turn on kid-favorite Coco.
Get crafty!
Put the tablets away, turn off the TV and get creative! Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with your young ones at home with some arts and crafts, like these homemade maracas from Fun365.
5. Learn something new.
When Netflix asks if you’re still watching…say no and do this.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by emerging yourself in their culture a bit differently this year. With all this extra time on your hands, quit TACO-bouting those things you want to someday do, and do it! (See what we did there).
Learn Spanish with the language learning app Babbel. You can learn on any device and the lessons are only about 10-15 minutes each day!
I mean, today is the day to do it.
Stay home. Stay safe. Don’t stop celebrating.
Happy Cinco de Mayo, from all of us at Fort Lauderdale Magazine.
