It’s tough to beat Rice Krispies Treats when you’re looking for a snack that’s fun, quick and easy to do. It’s also really easy to dress them up for Halloween. But first, just in case anybody’s confused, here’s the official recipe for Rice Krispies Treats, straight from Kellogg’s.
Take 3 tablespoons butter, 10 oz. miniature marshmallows and 6 cups Rice Krispies. Melt butter in a large saucepan, then melt the marshmallows. Add in the Rice Krispies and stir until everything’s coated. Press it all into a pan and cut into squares … or whatever shapes you want. Which leads us to the spookiness. There are any number of Halloween Rice Krispies Treats you can try; let your imagination run wild. Here are three.
1. Rice Krispies Candy Corn
This one’s easy. Just cut your orange-tinged Rice Krispies into triangles. Dip the little end into melted white chocolate, the big end into anything that comes out a bit yellow. (We realize caramel won’t give it quite the right color, but we think people will get the idea – and it’ll be tasty!).
2. Jack O’ Lantern Rice Krispies
If a pumpkin’s not enough, you can give your treat a face. A couple pieces of candy corn make great evil eyes, particularly if you point them at each other and slightly downward. If you have frosting in a piping bag, add a wry smile. Note: it’s probably better to use a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter rather than trying to stick a face on Rice Krispies Treats you’ve rolled into a ball.
3. Rice Krispies Pumpkins
Just add a little orange food dye to the butter and marshmallows, then roll the mixture into little ball “pumpkins” when you’re done. For added authenticity, add something like a green M&M or a single Rolo at the top for a “stem.”
